About Department

The Department of Computer Science and Technology was established in the year of 1999. Initially the Department floated 2-Year M.Sc. Programme and in 2005 introduced the 3-Year M.C.A. Programme. M.Phil. and Ph.D. Research Programmes, and three new 5-Year Integrated M.Sc. Programmes in Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics with multiple entry and multiple exit systems under Choice Based Credit Systems were started for the first time in the State of Andhra Pradesh in June 2006. Since inception, it has grown in stature to be ranked amongst the best in the University with good funding from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The UGC has recognised the Department’s potential for growth and has sanctioned the University Computer Centre for the Department with additional staff in the year 2009 with more than one crore rupees commitment. The Courses offered in the various P.G. Programmes of this Department are periodically updated to meet the ever growing requirements of both the Industry and Research. The curriculum is designed to train the students in developing application programmes (Software) and also designing and developing computing systems (hardware). A distinct feature is to have new set of syllabus for every batch admitted into the Department.

The Faculty of the Department are actively engaged in research in the areas of Data Mining, Neural Networks, Databases, Distributed Systems, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Semantic Web, and Web Technologies. More than a 120 research papers of the teachers have been published in reputed International Journals and a majority of the teachers have served as Reviewers / Resource Persons nationally and internationally.

Profile of the Department

The Department has produced more than a dozen Doctorates since 2010 who are well placed in Industry and Academics occupying top positions. In the P.G. Programmes, the success rate of the students in studies as well as placements is consistently more than 95%. Periodic workshops and study tours are organized to keep the students abreast of the happenings in the Technology Fields and Computing Industry. Experts from Industry participate in the Curriculum Design and orient the studies in the modern set up. Class Room as well as Laboratory Practices involve extensive audio-video utilization. The Students are encouraged to develop in a multifaceted manner to inculcate leadership, lifelong learning and team-oriented work culture. They are encouraged to participate in the local NSS, NCC and other Rural Development camps and activities, Games and Sports and to represent the University in technical events.

From the academic year (2013-2014) Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is introduced in all departments of the University. According to this system the M.Sc. Biotechnology Programme requires a student to earn 100 credits in four semesters. The Board of Studies in Biotechnology is approved course structure and CBCS syllabus of M. Sc Biotechnology for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semester on 20th November 2019.
