Information about the Ph.D. Degrees awarded by the University during the years 2020-2024

The vision and mission of Dravidian University emphasized that the research has a core element and priority area since it contributes for the social and economic development of the region as well as the nation and also provide a status of quality of the university among higher education intuitions. The ecosystem of research promotion in Dravidian University stresses on the following:

  • Research promotion and monitoring committees
  • Mobilization of funds for research promotion
  • Encouragement for faculty research and their achievements
  • Establishment of innovation, incubation and startup centres
  • Strengthening academic and industrial collaboration for research promotion
  • Protecting Intellectual property rights and strengthening patent culture
  • Establishment of centres of excellence and chairs for multi-disciplinary research in Dravidian Languages, Culture , Education & Human resource Development, Science and Technology.
  • Addressing Society and industry needs through research and consultancy
  • Implementation of research ethics.

With the above objectives, Dravidian University has established Research and development wing along with University Research committee which is responsible for effective implementation of various research promotion policies and plans.

Research Promotion and Monitoring Committees:

The promotion of research is taken care of by two bodies constituted at different levels. At the University level, university research committee is the Apex Body. At the department level, Department Research Committee will address the issues related to research.

University Research Committee:

Under the chairmanship of the Vice-chancellor, URC is constituted. Senior most faculty from out side the university will be as external members and Senior most faculty within the university will be internal members on rotation from the respective departments. The fundamental responsibilities of the Chairpersons may include handling, framing and changing of course syllabus from time to time allocation and processing intake of research scholars to eligible guides, besides coordinating and framing model question papers etc.

Departmental Research Committees (DRCs):

The faculty members in the department, eligible to guide students to pursue research, become members of DRC. The Departmental Research Committee members also act as members of Ph.D. Viva- Voce Committee. This DRC board is constituted by the University on recommendations of the Head and Chairperson, BoS of the respective department.

  • Every academic department must have a Departmental Research Committee (DRC).
  • All recognized Research Supervisors shall be the Members of the DRC.
  • The Head of the Department is the Convener of the Committee.
  • The Chairman, Board of Studies is the Chairman of the Committee.

Functions of DRC

The functions of the Departmental Research Committee, with regard to the research admission, are:

  1. a) To fix up the number of seats in Ph.D. to be filled up every year for research admissions (the strength of the candidates with a guide at any time shall not exceed the number given in Research Regulations).
  2. b) To approve the Academic Calendar for Ph.D. programme for the academic year.
  3. c) To recommend syllabi for Pre-Ph.D. course work for Paper-I (Research Methodology) approved by the BoS, concerned.
  4. d) To suggest panel of examiners and paper setters for Pre-Ph.D. examinations Paper-I (Research Methodology).
  5. e) To prepare Database of experts for each specialized area that can be used for the preparation of panel of examiners for adjudicating the Ph.D. thesis. The database may be periodically updated and made available to Board of Studies to evaluate the progress in the research work of the scholars.
  6. f) To participate in all the Viva-Voce examinations and seminars of the Pre-Ph.D. programmes.
  7. g) Title of the Research Topic, as mutually agreed by the Guide and Student.

The DRC shall perform the following activities:

Monitoring the progress of Ph.D. Students time to time at least in every 6 months where the student has to give a presentation on the work carried out so far, the progress achieved etc.

It is made mandatory that before the submission of the Ph.D. thesis that student has to make a presentation on the research topic to the faculty and members of the Board of the respective department. The members present can suggest any modifications or corrections or even reject the thesis if it is found that there are portions of unacceptable or doubtful content.

Mobilization of funds for research promotion:

Dravidian University allocates funds from the nonplan grant for creating research infrastructure in academic departments, purchase of books and journals, subscriptions to e-Books and journals/e-journals and maintenance of research laboratories. The University facilitates its faculty to get funds from DST, PURSE programme, the UGC-SAP, DST- FIST, RUSA and for collaborative projects with industry and research institutions. The university also encourages its faculty to get research funds from corporate , private and public sector organisations and NGOs.

Seed money is to be created from university self finance funds for research work in the fields of his or her specialization through evaluation of good project proposals received from faculty. The University has the policy to encourage research fellows to continue their research work after obtaining their Ph.D. degree as Post-Doctoral Fellows. Post-Doctoral Fellows are encouraged to apply for various funding agencies like DST, DBT, UGC, CSIR etc. to get fellowships. Once they obtain a fellowship grant they are given infrastructural support.

RAC must guide the research scholar in developing the study design & methodology of research and identify the course(s) that he/she may have to do. There shall be a RAC for each scholar. The RAC has to be formed Faculty-wise for evaluating each research scholar before making a proposal for their research. The committee is constituted with Vice-Chancellor as chair person and Rector, three Deans of the Faculties , four experts from the outside the University and Academic Dean as Convener.

Admission policy for the Ph.D programme

Ph.D admissions are made as per the guidelines of APRCET from 2019 onwards and the details for the Ph.D admissions as follows:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING APRCET 2023-24

Ph.D. can be pursued by candidates possessing the minimum qualifications as specified below either on Full-Time (FT)/ Part-Time (PT) basis in the Faculties of Science, Languages,, Social Science,  Education, Physical Education, Commerce and Management Studies, etc. Admissions into Ph. D. programme will be made within the framework of reservation rules in force prescribed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time. The details of faculty/specialization wise eligibility criteria will be notified in details along with the APRCET notification.

The APRCET Committee may include, combine, separate, or drop any of the disciplines as may be deemed necessary with proper reasoning.

Full-Time (FT)

  1. Candidates for admission to Ph.D. programme shall have a Master’s Degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-Point scale (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other state or in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  2. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/BC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade on a point scale where grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grave mark procedures.

Part-time (PT)

Candidate satisfying the eligibility conditions noted above can be admitted as PartTime candidate through an entrance test, as per the following order of priority. Admission into Part-Time category will be made on the basis of service seniority in the respective categories.

  1. Regular Faculty working in the University or to the P.G. Centers.
  2. (a) Faculty working in Post Graduate and Professional colleges having completed at least two years of service. This provision is not applicable to Faculty teaching Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities in professional colleges.

OR

(b) Faculty/ Librarians/Assistant Librarians working in affiliated degree / PG colleges and Faculty teaching Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities in professional colleges having completed at least two years of service.

OR

(c) Faculty working in Polytechnic/Government or private aided junior Colleges/Schools having  completed at least four years of service.

OR

(d) Working full time employees of any organization with at least four years of service

Candidates satisfying the following requirements shall be eligible to appear for APRCET:

  1. Candidate should be of Indian Nationality or persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders.
  2. Candidates should belong to the State of Andhra Pradesh. The candidate should satisfy local/ Non-local status requirements laid down in the Andhra Pradesh Educational Institutions (Regulations of Admission) Order, 1974 as subsequently amended.
  3. Ph.D can be pursued by candidates possessing the minimum qualifications as specified below either on Full-Time (FT) or Part-Time (PT) basis in the faculties of Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Fine Arts, Education, Physical Education, Commerce and Management studies, Engineering & Technology, Architecture & Planning, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences etc., Admissions into Ph.D programs will be made within the framework of reservation rules in force prescribed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time.
  4. Candidates for admission into Ph.D programmes shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body with at least 55% marks in the aggregate or its equivalent grade “B’ in the UGC-7 point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale where grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any statutory in that country for the Purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  5. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/BC/PWD and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace marks procedures.

The Ethics Policy Document outlines the principles and guidelines that guide the behavior and conduct of all members of the University community, including students, faculty, staff and administrators.

 Purpose

                The purpose of the Ethics Policy Document is to: – Define the ethical standards and values that Dravidian University expects from its community members. – Establish guidelines for ethical decision-making and behavior. – Provide a framework for addressing ethical concerns and conflicts of interest.

Core Principles Integrity and Honesty:

All members of the Dravidian University are expected to act with honesty, transparency, and truthfulness in all interactions, both within the University and with external stakeholders.

Respect and Dignity:

Dravidian University values diversity and inclusivity. All individuals are expected to treat one another with respect, fairness, and dignity, regardless of gender, religion, nationality, or other characteristics.

Academic Integrity:

Dravidian University is committed to promoting a culture of academic honesty. Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.

Conflicts of Interest:

                Any situation that may compromise or appear to compromise the objectivity or fairness of a decision or action should be disclosed promptly.

The goal of this policy is to help the scholars be successful during scholar’s course of study. We want  to  ensure  an  environment  free  from  harassment  and  discrimination  and  to  provide  the  support, mentorship, and opportunities to reach the scholar’s full potential. This policy is written for Ph.D scholars. 

First, this policy is written for scholars who have and/or are experiencing a hostile or unwelcoming work environment. It covers cases where scholar feel that the scholar have been discriminated 
against or harassed. 

Second, this policy is written for scholars who are struggling in their PhD studies. If the scholar is  having difficulty finding a research Supervisor, If the relationship with Supervisor not working well, When  the scholar feel isolated from peers,  If the scholars are worried about a fellow scholar, please reach  out to us. 

This policy covers two kinds of issues. 

(1) Harassment and discrimination, including on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation,  gender identity, or any other personal identity.  (2) An unsupportive work environment. This includes a lack of guidance on how to choose courses and  find a research Supervisor, how to formulate and proceed with the scholar’s thesis research, and how  to prepare for their next career step, after completing their 
PhD. 

The students Grievance Redressal committee is constituted with Rector of the university as chairperson, senior faculty members will be as members and student representative as special invitee.
